ZED ZONE Best Weapons: Stage-by-Stage
The best ZED ZONE weapons by stage: quiet starters, the first rifle, mid-game ammo economy, and the late-game guns worth a boss slot.
There is no single best weapon in ZED ZONE. A GM6 Lynx that one-shots a mech is the wrong gun for a dark house with three common infected and a neighbour who heard the shot. The right question is: what does this stage of the run need, and what ammo can I actually feed it?
The damage, rate-of-fire, noise, and capacity figures below come from the community weapon table and the in-game workbench. Treat them as a baseline, not gospel; patches can adjust numbers, and attachments change them.

A rifle with no rounds is a heavy stick. Count your spare magazines before a boss and bring a quiet fallback that can feed itself from drops.
Stage 1: the quiet start
Your first weapon is a tool. The fire axe lists 88 damage, has decent reach, and doubles as a chopping tool. The crowbar lists 40 damage but is fast and repairable. The stone axe lists 48 and costs almost nothing to remake.
For silent ranged damage, the wood bow lists 196 damage at 60 RPM with a noise value of 4. That is quieter than a suppressed pistol and costs only arrows. The compound bow lists 248 damage at the same rate with 96 projectile speed, which makes it the better hunting bow. The wood crossbow lists 168 damage and is easier to aim in a corridor; the iron crossbow lists 198.
A bow is not a crowd weapon. It is a tool for removing one infected at a time without pulling the block. Use it to clear a house, hunt deer, and kill a spitter before it spits.
Stage 2: the first firearm
The first gun should be cheap to feed and quiet enough for town. Three candidates:
- Ruger 10/22 — 81 damage, 300 RPM, noise 24, 10-round magazine, .22LR. The cheapest rifle to shoot and the least likely to pull a neighbourhood.
- Glock 19 — 90 damage, 500 RPM, noise 35, 17 rounds, 9mm. A reliable sidearm that can carry the early game.
- Remington 870 — 282 damage, 120 RPM, noise 40, 4+1 shells. The panic button for a Breaker in a doorway, but shells are heavy and the reload is slow.
The 10/22 is the best first rifle for most players. It teaches headshots, it is quiet enough to use indoors, and .22LR is common. The shotgun is the best first gun for players who keep getting cornered, because a single blast solves a problem that a pistol cannot.
Avoid the handmade guns as your primary. The handmade 5.56 launcher lists 135 damage but a single-round capacity and a long reload; it is a fallback, not a plan.
Stage 3: the mid-game rifle
Once you have a base and a steady ammo source, move to a proper rifle. The AR-15 lists 90 damage, 800 RPM, 640 projectile speed, noise 36, and a 30-round magazine. It is the most flexible 5.56 platform: controllable, accurate, and common enough to repair.
The AK-47 lists 108 damage, 500 RPM, 420 speed, noise 48, and 30 rounds. It hits harder per shot and is cheaper to feed in some regions, but the noise and recoil make it a worse indoor gun. The MK47 lists 105 damage at 600 RPM and sits between the two. The ARX100 lists 108 at 750 RPM with a 25-round magazine and better velocity.
For 7.62, the RPK lists 148 damage at 800 RPM with a 75-round magazine. It is a base-defense gun, not a patrol gun: heavy, loud, and hungry. The M249 lists 128 damage at 1154 RPM with a 200-round belt, which is the correct answer to a horde night and the wrong answer to a stealth run.
The VSS lists 102 damage at 800 RPM with noise 15 and a 30-round magazine. It is the quietest full-auto rifle on the table and a strong pick for solo players who want to clear buildings without waking the street.
Stage 4: precision and anti-material
Bolt-action rifles trade rate of fire for damage and range:
- Ruger M77 (.300) — 132 damage, 540 speed, 4 rounds, noise 50.
- Winchester Model 70 — 297 damage, 480 speed, 5 rounds, noise 56.
- GM6 Lynx — 1020 damage, 380 speed, 5 rounds, noise 80, .50 BMG.
The Winchester is the practical hunting and special-killer rifle. The GM6 Lynx is a boss and mech tool: it will remove a Spider Robot's health bar, and it will also tell every infected in the district where you are. Carry it for a planned fight, not for a walk.
The railgun lists 380 damage, uses metal discs, and has no conventional noise value in the table. It is a specialty weapon for armoured targets. The laser gun lists 600 damage and the tesla gun 400; both use energy cells, both are rare drops from the military camp's War Robot, and both are better as trophy weapons than as daily drivers.
Stage 5: the boss slot
For Area Guardians and the Area 61 final boss, build around sustained damage and a safe reload:
- Primary: Winchester 70 or GM6 Lynx for single-target damage; AR-15 or AK-47 for phases with adds.
- Secondary: Remington 870 or a high-capacity SMG for the moment a Breaker closes the gap.
- Melee: Katana Ji (198 damage) or mace bat (118) for stamina-efficient chip damage.
- Throwables: frag grenades and molotovs for the adds, not the boss.
The 1.0.5 Supreme Intelligence fight rewards spacing more than raw damage. Its sonic cone is a 45-degree, 20-metre attack with strong knockback and 1.5 seconds of stun; bosses are immune to the skill version, but you are not. Keep a pillar or a wall between you and the cone, and reload behind cover.
The boss guide→ covers each guardian's mechanics.
Ammo economy
The best weapon is the one you can feed. A rough hierarchy:
- .22LR — cheapest, common, low damage. Great for the 10/22 and the Pathfinder.
- 9mm — common, good pistol and SMG ammo.
- 5.56 — mid-game rifle standard; craftable at the ammo press.
- 7.62 — heavier, better against armour, louder.
- 12 gauge — expensive per shell, unmatched close-range stopping power.
- .300 Magnum — hunting and precision; do not waste it on common infected.
- .50 BMG — boss and mech only.
- Arrows and bolts — recoverable, quiet, bulky.
- Air gun pellets — cheap, low noise, but the guns need pumping and can injure your arm when they fail.
The ammo press turns materials into rounds, but it does not create gunpowder from nothing. Pick up every box you see, and do not sell a calibre you have not committed to yet.
Noise is a stat
The noise column matters more than the damage column in a survival game. A suppressed MP5-K at noise 40 is still louder than a bow at 4. A GM6 Lynx at 80 is a dinner bell. If you are clearing a town on foot, the quietest weapon that can kill the target is the best weapon.
The 1.0.5 patch added a vector font and interaction changes, not a noise overhaul. The old rule still holds: the shot you do not take is the one that does not pull the block.
